laurie and ian | a vermont wedding

EAT, PLAY, LOVE.

This was the theme for Laurie and Ian’s wedding weekend in Vermont, and no other three words could have fit this couples wedding better.  Due to the amount of details at their wedding we are going to do a 2 part blog! Today we are posting our favorite images of Laurie and Ian, and a few of their family and friends. Tomorrow we’ll get to the details in part 2.

The wedding took place at Ian’s parents’ house, which is a paradise in itself with a Japanese Teahouse overlooking a pond, wild lupine fields, lovely flower gardens, and a barn. A heavy but brief rainstorm passed over just before the first look portraits prior to the ceremony, giving us all a bit of a scare, but it passed. The guests arrived from the hotel by school bus and were welcomed with fresh lemonade and iced tea. As they arrived at the ceremony location they found their table assignment on a flag atop a box of popcorn. The ceremony was held on the edge of the pond and had some really nice personal moments such as the two moms talking about each of their child’s personalities. At the end of the ceremony family members were invited to toss chestnuts into a cloth held by Laurie and Ian. The number of chestnuts caught symbolizes the number of children they will have…  8 landed in the cloth.

After the ceremony we went to the field for portraits where I broke out the tilt shift for a few shots and Laurie broke out her red balloon for a few. Just as we started photographing Laurie with her balloon the sun found an opening in the clouds and amazingly gorgeous golden light raked across Laurie, highlighting her in the lupine field. The beautiful streak of sunlight lasted for less than a minute and Enna and I went into full berzerko photographer mode working as fast as we could before it disappeared! It was epic.

After the portrait session they joined everyone in the tent for toasts and dancing. Laurie and Ian kept it very casual and everyone enjoyed the change in pace for a wedding reception. The party in the tent had to end around 10pm, but that didn’t mean the party ended. Afterwards everyone headed to the barn where they raised the roof with dancing and drinking Ian’s home brew, and lingered at the scotch bar.

It’s been a fun year getting to know these two, traveling to Philly for their engagement session and to Vermont for their wedding. We have enjoyed some amazing food and drinks together. Don’t tell Ian, but I have a few bottles of his Nupti-Ale home brew stashed in my fridge for my next pool party. Check out their images…
